They will teach you practically anything, from making hummus to building apps in node.js, most of them for free. There is absolutely no excuse for you not to master a new skill, expand your knowledge, or eventually boost your career. You can learn interactively at your own pace and in the comfort of your own home. It’s hard to imagine how much easier it can possibly be. Well, that was then. Can these resources be as good as they used to be? Yes, and here’s why. A decade ago, we had a handful of resources and the Internet had barely filled it with trash. We had absolutely no competition and we were able to sell our services at an exceptionally high price. We still think we provide some of the best resources available, but the Internet has changed a lot since those times. More people know how to code, more libraries exist, and our business is getting harder. In the past, we were able to get away with charging a few dollars per month for access to thousands of videos and articles. This helped us build a loyal fan base. In today’s time pooling all of our resources in one website is impossible. We have tried this in the past and we couldn’t keep the traffic and quality up with that kind of effort. So instead, we have to segment the audience and charge a flat monthly fee. This doesn't necessarily mean lower quality content though. We have added a lot of new features, such as online courses and a newsletter, which have allowed us to create an amazing learning experience. In addition, we’re also trying to compete with companies that are providing cheap but useless courses as well as providing student loan information only available from those companies. We need to do better than that. In order to do that, we hope you'll consider upgrading your membership for a year or two and help us bring the quality back up again. Don’t worry, we will continue to support and develop the free resources and bring you new ones.
